07 Temmuz 2025 - OTHER Announcements
As is known, US President Donald J. Trump revised the measures regarding the import of steel and aluminum products that were put into effect in 2018 within the framework of Section 232 of the US Trade Expansion Act with two Presidential Decrees signed on February 10, 2025. Within this scope, as of March 12, 2025, the exemptions provided to various countries were abolished and steel, aluminum and derivative product imports from all countries were subject to an additional customs duty of 25%. In addition, with the justification of the US"s goal of supporting the domestic steel and aluminum sector more strongly, the additional customs duties of 25% on the import of steel and aluminum products and their derivative products, which had been implemented since March 12, were increased to 50% with an Executive Order signed by US President Trump on June 3, 2025. The measure in question entered into force as of June 4, 2025. This time, in a letter received from our Washington Trade Counsel, it is stated that the new steel derivative products that will be subject to additional customs duties applied under Section 232 have been determined by the announcement published in the US Official Gazette on June 16, 2025 (ANNEX-1) by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the US Department of Commerce. Within this framework, refrigerator-freezer (combined type) products (8418.10.00), chest-type and upright freezers (8418.30.00 and 8418.40.00), household dishwashers (8422.11.00), automatic and other washing machines (8450.11.00 and 8450.20.00), small and large clothes dryers (8451.21.00 and 8451.29.00), food waste disposers (8509.80.20), ovens, stoves and other cooking appliances (8516.60.40) and welded steel shelving systems (9403.99.9020) will be subject to an additional customs duty of 50% according to the steel content of the products when imported to the US as of June 23, 2025. In addition, it is stated that the products under the HS Code 9403.99.9020 will be evaluated under Section 232 based on their steel content, in addition to the Section 232 measures previously applied based on their aluminum content. According to US data, our exports in the mentioned products in 2024 will be 273 million US Dollars, and our country is the sixth largest supplier of imports to the US, with a share of approximately 2%, following Mexico (41%), South Korea (20%), China (18%), Thailand (10%) and Vietnam (3%).
