The İskenderun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (İTSO), in collaboration with the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), has established a search and rescue team to operate in urban search and rescue. The team, established at a light level, consists of 27 people.
With the importance of disaster preparedness becoming even more evident following the major earthquakes of recent years, the team, established with the participation of İTSO board members, council members, and professional committee members, was implemented with a sense of social responsibility.
Team members are trained to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a disaster through theoretical and practical training organized under the coordination of AFAD. Training focuses on topics such as debris search, first aid, equipment use, and field coordination.
Search and rescue teams accredited by AFAD are classified into different levels to ensure professional response capacity in disasters and emergencies. Light-level teams can conduct search and rescue operations in small-scale debris and limited demolition areas.
The team established by İTSO aims to both raise disaster awareness at the regional level and support the work of professional institutions in times of need.
