Although the regulations regarding incense flavorings included in the European Union legislation have not been directly transferred to our country"s legislation, the European Union regulations and practices are taken as a reference in import procedures and official controls related to these products.

As is known, the inspections carried out by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) are as follows:

As part of the reassessment studies, the safety assessments of ten primary incense flavorings from SF-001 to SF-010 have been reviewed; it has been assessed that the safety of these products cannot be adequately demonstrated in line with the available scientific data. Accordingly, the aforementioned incense flavorings have been removed from the Union List by the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2067 published by the European Commission.

While taking into account the transition periods determined by the European Union, the need for reformulation processes of businesses and In order to protect human health, it has been deemed appropriate to implement the following transition periods in national practice.

c) Products placed on the market before the specified dates; shelf life It is foreseen that the products will be allowed to remain on the market until the end of their lifespan, and that the reprocessing, use as an ingredient in the production of another food, or re-production of these products will not be permitted after the specified dates. In this context, it is important for food businesses to take into account the transition periods mentioned above and to take the necessary measures regarding the import, production, and marketing of the relevant products after the specified periods.
