The seminar titled “City and People with Disabilities,” organized in collaboration between the 19th Professional Group of the Iskenderun Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Iskenderun Representation of the Chamber of Architects, was held at the Iskenderun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ITSO).
The seminar, organized to contribute to the development of accessibility standards in cities, the increase of opportunities for barrier-free living, and the strengthening of professional awareness in this field, was attended by ITSO Board Member Gassan Kuran, MİMOD Iskenderun Representation President Koray Tanın, members, and sector representatives.
In the presentation given by Prof. Dr. Gülay Yedekçi, the speaker of the program, the planning, design, and implementation processes aimed at ensuring equal, safe, and independent access of disabled individuals to urban spaces were discussed. The seminar emphasized that the concept of an accessible city is not limited only to physical arrangements, and highlighted the importance of inclusive city design for social life. The seminar also included; The role of collaboration between public institutions, local governments, professional chambers, and the private sector in creating accessible cities was evaluated, and participants also exchanged views on professional responsibility and awareness issues. At the end of the program, Prof. Dr. Gülay Yedekçi was thanked for her contributions and presented with a plaque.
