The Iskenderun Chamber of Commerce and Industry Education and Development Foundation held a press briefing on its ongoing activities, scholarship programs, and new goals for the upcoming period.
The meeting, hosted by Doğan Erten, President of the İTSO Education and Development Foundation, was attended by Yusuf Şanlı, Vice President of the Foundation"s Board of Directors, members of the Foundation"s Board of Directors, members of the İTSO Assembly, and members of the press.
In the meeting, Foundation President Doğan Erten provided information about the Foundation"s activities from its establishment to the present day, stating that the foundations of the İTSO Education and Development Foundation were laid on October 30, 1986.
Erten stated that the foundation officially began its operations on December 5, 1986, after its charter was approved by the İTSO Assembly, and that since its establishment, its primary aim has been to support education and the youth of the region. He emphasized that the foundation provides scholarships to successful students in higher education who need financial support, highlighting that the scholarship program is based on the principle of "read and teach." Erten noted that needy university students residing in İskenderun, Belen, and Arsuz districts can benefit from the scholarships, which are provided uninterrupted for nine months of the year. He also pointed out that a key feature of the scholarship system is its repayment nature, ensuring that the support provided to students is interest-free. He stated that scholarship amounts are determined based on a certain percentage of the current minimum wage, and that students are given a two-year period to start their own business or find employment after graduation. Erten stated that repayments are made while maintaining the ratio of the student"s scholarship to the minimum wage during the period they received the scholarship. He noted that this system aims to enable young people who receive support from the Foundation and complete their education and enter the workforce to contribute to the education of other students in the coming years, thus creating a sustainable chain of solidarity. He also shared the goals for the new academic year, stating that the İTSO Education and Development Foundation plans to provide scholarships to 120 students in the 2026-2027 academic year. Erten added that scholarship applications are made through the İTSO Education and Development Foundation"s website, and after the applications are evaluated, support will be provided to students who are determined to be in need. Erten stated that the foundation"s income consists of resources allocated by the İTSO Assembly, as well as donations from individuals and legal entities, and emphasized that the support of regional business people is of great importance for the sustainability of the foundation"s educational activities. At the end of the meeting, Doğan Erten thanked the chairmen of the board of directors, board members, assembly members, Chamber employees, donors, and all supporters who have contributed to the foundation"s work since its establishment, and stated that the foundation will continue to contribute to the education of the region"s youth and strengthen the culture of solidarity. The meeting ended after thanking the press members for their participation.
