During the February 6 earthquake, 13-year-old Mehmet Mustafa Erkol, living in Hatay İskenderun, was trapped under the rubble in the house they lived in. The young athlete, who survived the wreck by losing his right leg and was interested in artistic gymnastics before the earthquake, continued his sports life with swimming, which he took a break after the earthquake.

ITSO Personnel Güldane Erkol, who settled in Istanbul during the treatment process. and his son Mehmet Mustafa Erkol, Coach Dr., who works under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in swimming, which he started for the purpose of treatment for the development of his muscles and mental rehabilitation during the prosthesis process after various surgeries. He was discovered by Duran Arslan as a "talented and promising athlete". He achieved many successes in the national and international swimming competitions he participated in at home and abroad in 2024. Mehmet Mustafa Erkol, who achieved success in swimming as a Paralympic athlete, continued to improve himself day by day and achieve new successes. He became both a hope and an example to people like himself by coming first in his field at the Triathlon Turkey Cup held in Mudanya recently.
